Lace Up Your Boots and Hit the Trails
Living in the Redlands truly spoils you. Sun, sand, and stunning scenery are practically on our doorstep. But what if you crave a taste of nature that doesn’t involve an engine? The Redlands boasts a fantastic network of walking and cycling paths, perfect for exploring hidden gems and soaking up the fresh air. As a local who loves a good leg stretch (or pedal!), I’ve compiled a comprehensive guide to some of my favourite walks and cycleways across different Redland regions. So, whether you’re a Cleveland local or just visiting Redland Bay, there’s an adventure waiting for you.
Cleveland - walking and cycling
Cleveland Point to Raby Bay Loop (Walking & Cycling): This scenic route is perfect for a taste of Cleveland’s coastal beauty. Starting at Cleveland Point (End of Cleveland Point Road, Cleveland), the pathway takes you past the historic Cleveland Yacht Club, through parkland with views of the bay, and along the waterfront at Raby Bay. Keep an eye out for the pelicans basking in the sun – they’re practically locals! If you’re feeling peckish, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants along the way to refuel. The loop is roughly 5 kilometres long and is easily achievable for most fitness levels. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/australia/queensland/cleveland-point-walk
Bluewater Trail (Walking): For a shorter walk with historical significance, check out the Bluewater Trail. Starting at the Cleveland District Cemetery (1535 Cemetery Road, Cleveland), this 1.5-kilometre trail winds its way through the grounds, offering glimpses of Cleveland’s past residents. Keep an eye out for the interesting headstones and the lovely views of Moreton Bay.
Sensory Walk (Walking): This unique trail is a great option for those looking for a sensory experience. Located within the Indigiscapes Botanic Gardens, the Sensory Walk incorporates a variety of garden and flora styles. Encouraging walkers and families to engage with the variety of surroundings in a new way. It’s a short walk, making it ideal for the younger ones or the elderly, but perfect for a mindful moment in nature. Choose from Bush Tucker gardens through to a Formal Garden setting. Opening times and location information here.
Douglas Track (Walking): For a more secluded walk in Cleveland, head to the Eprapah Creek Reserve (309 Eprapah Creek Road, Cleveland) and follow the Douglas Track. This 1.5-kilometre loop takes you through bushland and alongside Eprapah Creek. Keep your eyes peeled for kookaburras and more kookaburras (yes, you read that right – Cleveland has a healthy population of these happily noisy birds!).
Redland Bay - walking and cycling
Jack Gordon Pathway (Walking & Kids Cycling): This easy stroll is perfect for a relaxed morning coffee catch-up with friends. Head to the Redland Bay foreshore and Sel Outridge Park (End of Peel St, Redland Bay) and follow the pathway along the waterfront. The walk winds past playgrounds, parklands, and even a little beach, making it a great option for families with young children. The entire walk is around one hour long, so it’s manageable for walkers of all abilities. Remember it’s a shared pathway for walkers, bike riders and dogs (must be on a leash). Cafes are located across the road at Redland Bay Village, or catch a cold one with lunch at the Redland Bay Hotel nearby.
